SUMMARY:Interested in a Community Battery for Port Phillip?
DESCRIPTION:Register here\n\n\nThis event is for anyone interested in the idea of a community battery in Port Phillip. \nThe Port Phillip Emergency Climate Action Network (PECAN) is actively working with the Metro Community Power Hub (MCPH) to assess interest in establishing a community battery in Port Phillip. \nPECAN conducted a webinar in 2021 which identified significant community support for a community battery locally. \nThe MCPH is a one-stop shop working with communities to develop\, support & delivery local\, cost-effective clean energy projects. The Hub is being funded by Sustainability Victoria on behalf of the Victorian Government through the Community Power Hubs program and is led by the not-for-profit Yarra Energy Foundation (YEF). \nYEF is leading the Yarra Community Battery Project in North Fitzroy and YEF’s Chief Operating Officer Tim Shue will be speaking at our event\, along with Deb Sykes from PECAN. \nA community battery (also known as a neighbourhood battery) is a locally-based shared battery. It is typically the size of a 4WD vehicle\, and provides around 500kWH of storage that can support up to 250 local households. A community battery could facilitate the reduction of community greenhouse gas emissions\, resulting in better health outcomes\, greater community wellbeing and also contribute to reducing Melbourne’s overall emissions. \nSolar households would feed into the battery during the day and all participating residents can draw from the stored energy at night. A community battery would allow households that can’t install solar – like apartment owners and renters – to draw from the stored renewable energy from local solar panels. Any excess electricity stored in a community battery above local community needs can be sold into the grid when it is needed most putting further downward pressure on electricity bills. \nIncreasing battery storage could: \n● Cut power bills for households – by taking advantage of inexpensive and renewable solar energy that can be stored and used at peak times; \n● Cut emissions – by increasing the total use of renewable energy; \n● Reduce pressure on the grid – by reducing community reliance on the grid at peak times when the sun isn’t shining. \nCommunity batteries make renewable energy more accessible to individual households. They also store and distribute electricity more efficiently\, by allowing excess solar power to be shared. \n\nClick here to join the webinar

SUMMARY:Community battery trial in the City of Yarra – an introduction and Q&A (#2)
DESCRIPTION:Register for the event here\nAbout this event\n\n\nRight now\, there is a lot of excitement about “community batteries” and their role in the transition to net zero carbon. They can increase peoples’ access to renewable energy\, increase energy affordability\, and enable more people to install rooftop solar. Community batteries also tackle some of the networks’ most challenging problems like network ‘congestion’ and how to enable more solar exports to the grid. \nThis session will be facilitated in an ‘interview style’ and the audience will be encouraged to contribute their ideas and ask questions about community batteries. These conversations will inform the project team and shape the next steps of the Yarra community battery trial. Brief presentations to set the scene will be followed by a Q&A with the Yarra community battery trial team. \nFacilitator \n\nSamantha Green\, Climate Emergency Lead\, City of Yarra\n\n\nSpeakers \n\nTimothy Shue\, Communications & Marketing Manager\, Yarra Energy Foundation\nChris Wallin\, Project Manager\, Community Batteries\, Yarra Energy Foundation\nKeiran Price\, Senior Project Officer\, the Department of Environment\, Land\, Water and Planning – Energy Programs\n\nGuests \n\nGreg Hannan\, Head of Network Strategy & Non-Network Solutions\, CitiPower\nJennie Suann\, Stakeholder & Engagement Manager\, CitiPower\nJoanna Cooney\, Senior Communications & Engagement Consultant\, RPS – CitiPower\n\n\nThe webinar is hosted by the City of Yarra and the Yarra Energy Foundation. \nA zoom link and short pre-session survey will be emailed upon registration. \nFor more information about the community battery trial in the City of Yarra\, visit https://www.yef.org.au/community-batteries/ \nCan’t make this session? DESCRIPTION:Register for the event here\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRight now\, there is a lot of excitement about “community batteries” and their role in the transition to net zero carbon. These conversations will inform the project team and shape the next steps of the Yarra community battery trial. Brief presentations to set the scene will be followed by a Q&A with the Yarra community battery trial team. \n\nFacilitator \n\nSamantha Green\, Climate Emergency Lead\, City of Yarra\n\n\nSpeakers \n\nTimothy Shue\, Communications & Marketing Manager\, Yarra Energy Foundation\nChris Wallin\, Project Manager\, Community Batteries\, Yarra Energy Foundation\nKeiran Price\, Senior Project Officer\, the Department of Environment\, Land\, Water and Planning – Energy Programs\n\nGuests \n\nGreg Hannan\, Head of Network Strategy & Non-Network Solutions\, CitiPower\nJennie Suann\, Stakeholder & Engagement Manager\, CitiPower\nJoanna Cooney\, Senior Communications & Engagement Consultant\, RPS – CitiPower\n\nThe webinar is hosted by the City of Yarra and the Yarra Energy Foundation. \nA zoom link and short pre-session survey will be emailed upon registration. \nFor more information about the community battery trial in the City of Yarra\, visit https://www.yef.org.au/community-batteries/ \n\nCan’t make this session?
