SUMMARY:Interested in a Community Battery in Flinders?
DESCRIPTION:Register here\n\nAn online Q&A for community members interested in seeing a Community Battery installed in Flinders\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nThis event is for anyone interested in the idea of a community battery in the township of Flinders on the Mornington Peninsula. \nThe Flinders Zero Carbon Community (FZCC) and eMPower Mornington Peninsula are actively working with the Metro Community Power Hub (MCPH) to assess interest in establishing a community battery in Flinders. \nFZCC hosted a webinar in 2021 which identified significant community support for a community battery locally. Now\, with the support of the MCPH\, FZCC are able to explore this opportunity and provide a forum for the Flinders community to ask questions\, learn about community batteries\, and identify the community’s priorities if a community battery project was to go ahead. \nThe MCPH is a one-stop shop working with communities to develop\, support & delivery local\, cost-effective clean energy projects. The Hub is being funded by Sustainability Victoria on behalf of the Victorian Government through the Community Power Hubs program and is led by the not-for-profit Yarra Energy Foundation (YEF). \nYEF is leading the Yarra Community Battery Project in North Fitzroy and YEF’s Community Energy Project Officer\, Lachlan Hensey\, will be speaking at our event. \nA community battery (also known as a neighbourhood battery) is a locally-based shared battery. It is typically the size of a 4WD vehicle\, and provides around 500kWH of storage that can support up to 250 local households. A community battery could facilitate the reduction of community greenhouse gas emissions\, resulting in better health outcomes\, greater community wellbeing and also contribute to reducing Melbourne’s overall emissions. \nSolar households would feed into the battery during the day and all participating residents can draw from the stored energy at night. A community battery would allow households that can’t install solar – like apartment owners and renters – to draw from the stored renewable energy from local solar panels. Any excess electricity stored in a community battery above local community needs can be sold into the grid when it is needed most putting further downward pressure on electricity bills. \nIncreasing battery storage could: \n● Cut power bills for households – by taking advantage of inexpensive and renewable solar energy that can be stored and used at peak times; \n● Cut emissions – by increasing the total use of renewable energy; \n● Reduce pressure on the grid – by reducing community reliance on the grid at peak times when the sun isn’t shining. \nCommunity batteries make renewable energy more accessible to individual households. They also store and distribute electricity more efficiently\, by allowing excess solar power to be shared.

SUMMARY:Let's Electrify Melbourne
DESCRIPTION:Register here\nThe Metro Community Power Hub (MCPH) represents a powerful alliance of community climate groups\, councils and local neighbourhoods coming together for the first time to drive community-led renewable energy projects across Melbourne. \nThe MCPH is being funded by Sustainability Victoria on behalf of the Victorian Government through the Community Power Hubs program and is led by the not-for-profit Yarra Energy Foundation. \nAs Melbourne’s first Community Power Hub\, the MCPH’s mission is to accelerate our city towards a net zero future which benefits the whole community. \nJoin us on November 25 at 11am to hear how we’re going to do that. \nYou’ll also hear from the inspiring engineer\, inventor & electrification champion Saul Griffith about how Australia can lead the world in enjoying the environmental and economic rewards of residential electrification. \nLet’s electrify Melbourne together!

SUMMARY:Make Solar Easy
DESCRIPTION:Register here\nRooftop solar is so popular – slashing energy bill costs\, lowering your carbon footprint and paying for itself in around 3 to 6 years. However\, for many people\, the biggest barrier is access to the right information. The newly-established Metro Community Power Hub (MCPH) can offer independent advice from experienced practitioners\, connecting you with trusted suppliers and discounted solar. \nPeter Mercouriou\, MCPH Manager and experienced solar advisor\, will guide us through a discussion on the right kind of setup\, what sort of panels\, heritage factors\, whether a battery should be included\, and how the MCPH can help with choosing suppliers and installers. The program only works with carefully vetted installers and offers discounts of up to 20% off. Peter will also touch on the benefits of maximising your solar by moving towards an “all-electric home” by installing efficient electric appliances\, which can also be arranged through the MCPH. \nAs part of Lighter Footprints’ participation as a community partner in the MCPH\, we have arranged for Boroondara and surrounds to access the MCPH Solar Program for householders and businesses. Similar programs organised by Yarra Energy Foundation\, the MCPH lead organisation\, have had resounding success\, seeing the installation of over 18\,000 solar panels on the rooftops of homes and businesses across greater Melbourne. \nWhether you are just starting on your solar journey or at the final stages\, this presentation will help you sort through your options and offer you choice and independent advice.
