SUMMARY:Launching Port Phillip's partnership with the Metro Community Power Hub
DESCRIPTION:Register here\nHosted by the Port Phillip Emergency Climate Action Network (PECAN)\, this event will showcase the role of community batteries in transitioning the grid to one that supports a zero carbon future with guest speaker Chris Wallin\, the community battery project manager from the Yarra Energy Foundation. Hear how you can take actions towards an ‘all-electric home’ and how the newly established energy hub can assist you. \nThe event will be run in partnership with the newly established Metro Community Power Hub (MCPH)\, a one-stop hub helping more people access practical renewable energy solutions. \nThe MCPH is led by the Yarra Energy Foundation\, which has been awarded funding for a 12-month period by Sustainability Victoria on behalf of the Victorian Government. \nAfter registering you will receive an order confirmation via email which includes a Zoom link to the session. \nRead more about PECAN and the Metro Community Power Hub

SUMMARY:Community battery trial in the City of Yarra – an introduction and Q&A (#2)
DESCRIPTION:Register for the event here\nAbout this event\n\n\nRight now\, there is a lot of excitement about “community batteries” and their role in the transition to net zero carbon. They can increase peoples’ access to renewable energy\, increase energy affordability\, and enable more people to install rooftop solar. Community batteries also tackle some of the networks’ most challenging problems like network ‘congestion’ and how to enable more solar exports to the grid. \nThis session will be facilitated in an ‘interview style’ and the audience will be encouraged to contribute their ideas and ask questions about community batteries. These conversations will inform the project team and shape the next steps of the Yarra community battery trial. Brief presentations to set the scene will be followed by a Q&A with the Yarra community battery trial team. \nFacilitator \n\nSamantha Green\, Climate Emergency Lead\, City of Yarra\n\n\nSpeakers \n\nTimothy Shue\, Communications & Marketing Manager\, Yarra Energy Foundation\nChris Wallin\, Project Manager\, Community Batteries\, Yarra Energy Foundation\nKeiran Price\, Senior Project Officer\, the Department of Environment\, Land\, Water and Planning – Energy Programs\n\nGuests \n\nGreg Hannan\, Head of Network Strategy & Non-Network Solutions\, CitiPower\nJennie Suann\, Stakeholder & Engagement Manager\, CitiPower\nJoanna Cooney\, Senior Communications & Engagement Consultant\, RPS – CitiPower\n\n\nThe webinar is hosted by the City of Yarra and the Yarra Energy Foundation. \nA zoom link and short pre-session survey will be emailed upon registration. \nFor more information about the community battery trial in the City of Yarra\, visit https://www.yef.org.au/community-batteries/ \nCan’t make this session? Don’t worry! The session will be recorded and made available after the event. \nOtherwise\, we are hosting another session on 1 September 2021.

SUMMARY:Community batteries: the new kid on the block
DESCRIPTION:Attend here\nAustralia has won the top spot of solar PV systems per capita and is the envy of many other nations. With that accolade comes a problem of network congestion in the middle of the day and ensuing export curtailments and zero export connection approvals for residents and businesses. While home batteries are a way to mitigate that problem\, it is not available to everyone. Community batteries on the other hand offer an alternative solution that not only solves the problem but can also empower the community to become part of the solution. After an introduction of the Melbourne Solar Sponge project and YEF’s partnership with Citipower and BSGIP\, Chris will explain why shared energy storage is such a great idea and reveal the opportunities it unlocks. \nFormat: \n\n2.00 pm – Introduction by Andrew Fraser\, Battery Storage and Grid Integration Program\, Australian National University\n2.05 pm – Presentation by Chris Wallin\, Project Manager\, Yarra Energy Foundation\n2.40 pm – Audience Q&A\n3:00 pm – Close\n\nAbout the speaker \nChris Wallin is an experienced project manager in technical\, business and financial areas. As an electrical engineer\, he worked on large industrial installations from design to project handover. He also had a career in business management with Information Technology companies\, and regularly volunteers with community organisations to assist in identifying and qualifying renewable energy projects.
