Enabling more solar and expanding access to renewable electricity is needed to reduce our community emissions to zero, because electricity is the largest share of Yarra’s total emissions (69%). But there are new challenges facing the grid if we want to reach a zero carbon future with homes and businesses powered by all-renewable energy.
One of the most exciting solutions to help reduce our community’s carbon footprint is a ‘community battery’, which works like a giant power bank to provide safe, reliable and a more sustainable solution for shared energy storage.
The Yarra Energy Foundation, a local non-profit organisation core funded by the City of Yarra, has won a $800,000 grant from the Victorian Government through the Neighbourhood Battery Initiative, delivered by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP).
The project is breaking new ground on neighbourhood-scale energy storage and aims to enable neighbourhoods to rapidly reduce carbon emissions from electricity, and in a way that is both equitable and affordable for everyone – not only solar customers.
To make this initiative a success, the project team is engaging with the local community in your neighbourhood to better understand local priorities to shape the next steps in the project. To attend, please RSVP by 25th October 2021 to email@example.com with your
