Solar Sponges: An introduction to community batteries.

WEBINAR: What’s the role of community batteries in the climate emergency response?

Webinar 7 April 2021 – An introduction to community batteries.

Community batteries are seen as a key to unlocking higher solar penetration, while at the same time solving some of the networks’ most challenging problems. These include how to enable more solar exports to the grid, and store and dispatch energy to customers during peak times. What is a community battery, what does it do, and what challenges need to be overcome to enable their rollout? We hope to answer these questions and more in this session with a panel of experts.

Join us on 7 April from 6-7pm, to hear from those pursuing Victoria’s first ‘solar sponge’ network of community batteries as a cutting-edge response to the climate emergency. Brief presentations will be followed by an audience Q&A with panellists.

Panellists:

  • Chris Wallin, Project Manager – Community Batteries, Yarra Energy Foundation (YEF)
  • Greg Hannan, Head of Network Strategy and Non-Network Solutions, CitiPower, Powercor & United Energy
  • Dr Marnie Shaw, Senior Research Fellow in the School of Engineering and a Research Leader in the Battery Storage and Grid Integration Program at the Australian National University.

Host: Mel Miller-Yule, Sustainability Officer, City of Yarra

The webinar will be recorded and hosted by the City of Yarra, in partnership with the Yarra Energy Foundation and CitiPower.
