Led by Yarra Energy Foundation and funded by the Victorian Government through the Cheaper Home Electric Energy Program, Sport & Spark is all about connecting households with practical, trusted information on how to switch from gas to electric through familiar community sporting environments. 

Through this project, we’ll be partnering with 12 community sports clubs across Hobsons Bay, Hume, Maribyrnong, Whittlesea and Wyndham to deliver engaging, locally led activities that spark conversations about: 

• lowering energy bills 

• improving home comfort and health 

• accessing rebates and support 

Over the coming months, you’ll see: 

• community events and club-led activities 

• real stories and practical guidance on electrification 

• support for households to take the next step on their electrification journey 

Importantly, Sport & Spark also supports clubs themselves – helping them strengthen participation, grow membership, and deliver meaningful experiences for their communities.

The Cheaper Home Electric Energy Program is about supporting households to make informed decisions about upgrading their homes to efficient electric energy, and access state government rebates and programs to do so, to save money on their energy bills.  

This program aims to reach communities in metropolitan Melbourne, especially those hit hardest by the cost of living and/or culturally and linguistically diverse communities, who are more likely to benefit from assistance in accessing resources to make informed decisions.  

Sport & Spark will use familiar and trusted sporting environments as a platform to initiate conversations about home electrification, making the topic more accessible and relevant to these communities.
